Former NFL Players to join Mayor Jim Burch in National START! Walking Day event
Two former players from the National Football League will join Mayor Jim Burch tomorrow, April 8, for the National START! Walking Day event.
Max Lane, former offensive tackle for the New England Patriots and Rick Upchurch, former wide receiver for the Denver Broncos, will be at Joe Stonis Park at noon to walk with the mayor. They will be joined by spring camp participants, and representatives with the American Heart Association and Lee Memorial Health Systems.
Lane and Upchurch are in Cape Coral this week conducting an instructional football workshop at Storm Football Complex with the Cape Coral Parks and Recreation Department. Lane played seven seasons in the NFL from 1994-2000 and started in Super Bowl XXXI for the New England Patriots. Upchurch was a wide receiver for the Denver Broncos from 1975-1983 and was named to the Pro Bowl in his second season.
Residents are invited to come to Joe Stonis Park and take part in the walk, officials said, adding those who cannot come to the park are encouraged to join the effort, get active and pledge to live a longer, healthier life.
