Local red tide chapter holds research update meeting
The Bonita Springs/Fort Myers Beach Solutions To Avoid Red Tide chapter will host a general membership meeting and red tide research update Tuesday, March 31 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Vester Marine & Enviromental Science Research Field Station at 5164 Bonita Beach Rd. in Bonita Springs.
Jeff Werner, Vice Chair of the Fort Myers Beach Marine Resources Task Force and a Board Member of the local START chapter, will be incolved in the event which features opening remarks from Bonita Mayor Ben Nelson and Introductory comments from Hans Wilson, president of the local START chapter.
Two noted professors from Florida Gulf Coast University will provide viable information on red tide and red algae. Dr. Michael Parsons, associate professor of the Department of Marine & Ecological Sciences at FGCU, will give a red tide research update while Dr. Ai Ning Loh, associate professor of the Department of Chemistry & Mathematics at the school, will speak on red drift algae research update.
There also will be a screening START’s new film called “Red Tide Refrain” during the event.
