Carnival today at Christa McCauliffe
The madness of March is in full swing, but for the kids at Christa McCauliffe Elementary School, they are in the process of decompressing following the intensity of FCAT testing, which just wrapped.
They plan on celebrating at their school today with the appropriately named “March Madness Carnival,” which features midway games, food and prizes, and a talent show.
Principal Dr. Lee Bush said the students are starting to celebrate the conclusion of testing.
“Even though at our school we try not to put a lot of emphasis on the testing … nevertheless the test itself has a lot of pressure aligned with it, especially for third graders,” he said. “So this is a chance for us to say, hey, let’s have some fun.”
Not a traditional fund raiser like their efforts in the fall, this Parent-Teacher Organizations fueled carnival is all about giving the kids a chance to let their hair down.
That invitation extends to the entire community, as the carnival is open to anyone who wants to have a good time. No school affiliation necessary.
“All the events at school are open to community members. It doesn’t matter where you live, this will be a nice place to take the kids,” Bush added. “The community is invited. The atmosphere we try to provide is one where kids and families can have fun.”
The carnival will run for three hours, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., packing a lot of activity into a short period of time.
Bush said the time frame is perfect for what the school is trying to accomplish, which is give the students a fun few hours, let off some steam, and not have to take up their entire Saturday.
“The students work hard and they deserve to have some fun,” he said.
