Mardi Gras in da Club: Yucatan holds first ever after-hours nightclub event Saturday
Ready to kick the beach nightlife up a notch, the Yucatan Beach Stand (250 Old San Carlos Blvd.) plans to host its first late-night party gig with a giant Mardi Gras blowout bash Saturday, Feb. 28, from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m.
During the all-night festivities, the Yucatan will morph into a nightclub atmosphere, moving out the tables for an open dance floor and DJ booth, and offering plenty of drink specials while boasting hot body contests, kickin’ beats and a wild time, with the lights down low and the music cranked up.
“We’re setting it up just as a nightclub would,” said Kevin Fuller, Yucatan bartender and organizer of the late-night event. “This is the first time we’re transitioning from a restaurant to a nightclub, hosting an after-hours party. We’re really excited about it.”
Hot drink specials
Drink specials are being offered all night.
Enjoy $2 Bud Light drafts, $5 Jager bombs and $6 hand grenades (a pretty famous New Orleans drink that usually comes in giant tubes).
“We’re also serving up a Mardi Gras tea with Sweet Carolina Sweet Tea Vodka, a tea infusion,” Kevin said.
Hot bodies
What’s a hot Mardi Gras party without a hot body contest? The Yucatan will kick off the sexy contest at 12:30 that night.
Chicks have a chance to get onstage sporting a cute Yucatan babydoll tee and show the crowd why they should win the super sexy contest, all while the house DJ spins some slammin’ tracks.
Kevin said free shots might also be given out during the sexy showcase. Open up!
Hot music
Throughout the Yucatan’s nightclub scene Saturday, local spin doctor DJ Franklin Mint will slam some sweet beats, playing anything from house music, hip hop and techno to top 40 and just straight up jammin’ jives.
Hot giveaways
Kevin said plenty of giveaways are going to be passed out throughout the night, and what’s a Mardi Gras party without the beads, right??
There’ll be plenty of beads and boas, and for you shy ones out there, don’t worry, you probably won’t have to work too hard to get them.
“Everyone gets beads,” Kevin said.
Getting in
The cost to get into this all-night party’s just a dollar. That’s right, $1. If you’re having trouble finding one dollar, look between the couch cushions and check the soda machines.
You must be 21 and up to get in, and everyone will get a wristband and beads upon entering.
There’s no particular dress code, but show your true Mardi Gras spirit by showing up decked out in your own unique beads, masks, feather boas and other sexy New Orleans gear.
Street-teamin’ it
To get the word out about this first-ever after-hours party at the Yucatan, Kevin said he’s gathering up a street team to help spread the word.
