All Island Yard Sale

The Yard Sale this past Saturday was a resounding success. We were pleased to welcome a variety of vendors and displayers, and there were many bargains to be obtained. From the steady flow of people coming and going, and the number of items being carried away, one can guess it was highly satisfying.

We appreciated hearing so many affirming comments about the event, and about the library. Displayed also was the model of the new library expansion and we were delighted that more came to understand the promising plans underway.

Our thanks to those who shared comments and who left a donation for the Library Construction Fund.

Special thanks to co-chairs Katie Corning and Karen Swanbeck for arranging the details, and being the tireless stalwarts behind the scenes.

Reading On The Rise

For the first time in more than 25 years, American adults are reading more literature, according to a new study by the Endowment for the Arts. The overall rate at which adults read literature (novels and short stories, plays, or poems) rose by seven percent.

This increase in reading comes as no surprise to those of us in the library world. We have been feeling both the interest and demand for growing titles.

Book and DVD Donations

We gladly accept book and DVD donations. Feel free to share your treasured titles with us so that we can expand what is available for others, and if we’ve got it in the collection already, it can be added to the Friends’ bookstore.

It is helpful that you drop off these titles when we are open. Adding them to the materials drop when we are closed increases the possibility of extra weight on other returned titles and we want to reduce the possibility of damage as much as possible.

Returning Titles

When we are open, please bring titles into the library and just leave them on the left side of the front desk. Doing this lessens the possibility of wear & tear on falling titles in the materials drop, and makes it quicker to get them checked in for return to the shelves.

Conference Room Events

We have an active schedule of events scheduled for March. In January we offered 25 programs for adults and 399 participated in those events.

Library Hours

Don’t remember library hours? Call for information. When we are closed, a recorder gives the hours of operation, either on 765-8162, or on 765-8163. Except for holidays, which would be mentioned on the recorder, we are open Monday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 9 a.m. to 5p.m., and Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. We look forward to seeing you.
