Spa-Ciffically Speaking

By Staff | Feb 2, 2009

It's amazing what Neosporin can do.

Why do people go to a spa? Who needs a massage? What hairstyle would look best on me? The answers to these questions and many more can be found in the Beach Bulletin every week. Just ask Krissy Simone, owner of Esterra Spa and Salon along Estero Boulevard.

Losing her crown?

Dear Krissy,

I recently went in for my regular color appointment for my hair and for some reason some of the hair around the crown of my head broke off during the color application. Is there a way to fix this until my hair grows back, or should I just cut it all off and start from scratch?

Linda, Fort Myers

Dear Linda,

Sorry to hear about your situation, but the good news is there is an easy fix if you want to maintain the original length of your hair. Of course, I do not know what your normal hair length or style is, but a few hair extensions or a hair piece around the crown put in by a licensed hair stylist is definitely a possibility.

If this does not work for you and you do decide to go with a new and shorter hairstyle, there are so many new wonderful cuts to choose from, this might be the beginning of a fun new you!

Pesty pimples

Every now and then I get a huge pimple on my face that takes a couple weeks to get rid of. It is like a big red bump that appears to have no head, and of course I squeeze it to death trying to make it go away, but it just becomes a big sore on my face. What can I do?

Kelly, Fort Myers

Dear Kelly,

This is a very common pimple problem for women, brought on by stress and hormones. You are right, you could squeeze all day and it will not go away.

You could try a moist hot compress to draw it to a head but if that does not work you could try waiting for it to naturally go away or visit a skin care specialist to see if they can help it along. Another helpful hint if you’ve tried to get rid of it and broke the skin: Try using a dab of a Neosporin-type product to help with the healing and fight infection.

Burning back pain

I have been having really bad burning pain in my back and it’s keeping me up at night. Do you think massage would help?

Sherry, Cape Coral

Dear Sherry,

I think making an appointment with a massage therapist is a good idea. That way, they can ask you the necessary questions they would need to know in order to decide if massage would benefit you or not.
