Marjorie Baltes Schmitt, 1929 to 2008

Jan 22, 2009

Marjorie Baltes Schmitt, 79, passed away Saturday after a brief illness. She was a long-time resident of Fort Myers Beach, where she and her husband owned and operated a beach house and the former Offshore Apartments on Third Street.

Born in Norwalk, Ohio, Marjorie studied music at Marygrove Collage in Detroit. She married Gail Sampsel Schmitt in 1951 and the couple had six children in Toledo, Ohio. They were married 54 years until his passing in August 2007.

In 1972, the Schmitt’s moved their family to Fort Myers Beach, where Mrs. Schmitt loved the climate and the beach. She could be seen riding her bike around the island until very late in her life, eventually trading the cycle for a motorized scooter. Mrs. Schmitt was an organist at Church of The Ascension for a time and she enjoyed playing piano, collecting shells and playing with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her sons; A.J., Frank, Phillip, John; daughters Gail Violette, Mary Schmitt and 13 grandchildren.

She will be dearly missed
