Cape Coral police made six domestic battery arrests over the holiday, police officials said Friday.
“We enforce (laws against domestic battery) year round,” said Cape Coral Police Department Sgt. Lisa Barnes about the department’s enforcement efforts during the holiday season.
Erik Martinez, 20, was among the half-dozen arrests made by the Cape Coral Police Department between Thursday and early Friday.
Police called to a disturbance Thursday morning report they arrived to find him holding a visibly bruised woman near the street.
Martinez reportedly struck the woman with a belt and kicked and punched her in his Cape Coral home where she had been living. When she locked herself in a bathroom, Martinez kicked in the door, struck her and threw her to the floor, the victim reportedly told police.
Martinez proceeded to chase the woman outside with a barbecue brush and was holding her near the roadway when police arrived, reports state.
Martinez declined to comment about the incident to police, according to reports.
Police said the victim had large welts on her face and back and bruising on her stomach, but refused medical attention Thursday.
Martinez remained in the Lee County Jail on $1,000 bond for a misdemeanor domestic battery charge Friday evening, according to jail booking records.
The Cape Coral Police Department also booked the following people into the Lee County Jail Thursday and Friday on domestic battery charges, according to available booking records:
* Karianne Marie Spiller, 23, of Fort Myers.
* Brenda Schrenker Talbert, 45, of Cape Coral.
* Kurt Alan Talbert, 50, of Cape Coral.
* Cassandra Ann Chikitus, 20, of Cape Coral.
No details on the alleged incidents were available Friday.
