Two people were shot after an argument escalated into violence outside a Lehigh Acres home this morning.
A 16-year-old was shot in the upper body and was taken to the Lee Memorial Hiospital Trauma Center shortly after 2 a.m. The wound is not life-threatening, officials said. The teen’s name has not been released.
A second person, identifiied as Eliezer Alce, 20, had left the scene, but called for medical assistance. She also was taken to the hospital for treatment of a minor injury.
Both victims are from Immokalee.
The incident occurred at 205 Ground Dove Circle, were deputies responding found a large crowd of people were gathered outside the home.
According to witnesses, the shooting occurred in the yard after an argument escalated to a physical confrontation.
Due to the nature of the incident, detectives with the Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit were instructed to continue the investigation. Two persons of interest were detained for questioning. No one has been charged. Additionally, while responding to the shooting, one of the Sheriff’s Office patrol units was involved in a single vehicle crash. Preliminary information is the driver of the patrol car, Deputy Susan Ferri, 33, was forced to take evasive action to avoid striking a man in a wheel chair crossing Homestead Road. The action caused the vehicle to roll over, injuring Ferri and her passenger, Deputy Jamie Thorpe, 31, a field training officer.
The crash occurred near the intersection of Andros Street and Homestead Road in Lehigh Acres.
Ferri was airlifted to the Trauma Center at Lee Memorial Hospital, while Thorpe was taken by ambulance. Neither injury is considered life threatening. Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
