Father arrested in apparent accidental shooting death of teen
Cape Coral Police detectives have arrested the father of a 12-year-old boy who appears to be involved in the shooting that killed Colton Hutchinson, 14, according to a report from city officials.
At 1:04 p.m., Cape police received a call of a shooting at 2422 S.E. 28th Street. The 12-year-old called 911 and initially reported that two people with ski masks entered the home and shot Colton, police said.
An investigation by detectives appears to indicate that the 12-year-old was involved in the shooting.
Colton was transported to Cape Coral Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
During the investigation, Cape police determined that the father of the boy who may be involved in the shooting had not properly secured firearms in the home. David Michael Casman, 49, has been arrested and charged with Culpable Negligence, a third degree felony.
The investigation is continuing.
