Sheriff’s deputies have located the silver vehicle and its driver shown in surveillance photos near where a Fort Myers woman was found murdered in a North Fort Myers parking lot Saturday, said LCSO spokesperson John Sheehan.

Detectives have located car, have spoken with the owner, and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office is no longer looking for the either the vehicle or anyone associated with the car, officials said Monday morning. Officials are no longer referring to the car as the “silver vehicle of interest.”

The Sheriff’s Office previously asked for help finding the car and its driver, described Sunday as a possible “person of interest” in the case.

Sheriff’s deputies found Evelyn Bermudez, 49, of 4544 Auburn Avenue, Fort Myers, slumped behind the steering wheel of a red Nissan truck with “obvious signs of trauma” around 7:20 p.m. Saturday. The death was determined to be a homicide following an autopsy Sunday, though a cause of death has not been released.

The truck where Bermudez was found was parked at the Weaver’s Corner shopping plaza. A witness who saw the truck roll back from a parking space in front of the U.S. Post Office called police for medical assistance. The witness was seen at 1830 N. Tamiami Trail, North Fort Myers, walking past the truck shortly before the medical call, police said.

No further information is being released at this time, as the investigation continues, Sheehan said.
