Police find body in car removed from Cape canal; Await identification by medical examiner
Cape Coral police discovered a man’s body inside a vehicle submerged in a canal Monday.
Police are awaiting confirmation of the man’s identity pending an investigation by the Medical Examiner’s Office.
The victim was discovered at approximately 9:20 a.m. inside a green 2004 Cadillac CTS in a canal at Northwest 19th Avenue and Northwest 26th Street, according to police. He is described as a Hispanic male.
Police said the man was driving eastbound on Northwest 26th Street and failed to turn right onto Northwest 19th Avenue, crossing an empty lot and entering the canal. The car was on its roof facing eastbound in the canal.
A police dive team entered the canal and discovered the body. Both the body and the vehicle were later removed from the canal.
The death marks the 11th traffic fatality in Cape Coral this year, less than a week after a single vehicle crash took the life of 24-year-old resident Kristie Donlon on Tuesday.
More information will be released as it becomes available, police said.
