A Cape Coral man made inconsistent statements to officers about being beaten and robbed, and was lacking injuries related to the alleged incident Sunday afternoon, police reported.

The 52-year-old man called the Cape Coral Police Department from a pay phone at 820 S.E. 47th Terrace at about 4:17 p.m. Sunday, stating he was robbed by three white males 20 minutes prior to calling, reports indicated. The man said the three males had punched him on both sides of his face and ribs.

The man was checked by Lee County Medical Unit 4 and did not have any injuries from the alleged incident, said police. Additionally, officers reported the man’s descriptions of the assailants were inconsistent.

Cape Coral Police Department Public Service Aide Denise Romano said she was parked across the street from the man and did not see anyone else in the area. She said if something had happened, she would have witnessed it.

The man was taken to the Cape Coral Hospital for further medical evaluation.

The man’s contact information and permanent address were not immediately available. Police described the man as vagrant.
