Man allegedly battered pregnant lady
A man was arrested after allegedly battering a 29-week pregnant woman, causing her to fall on her stomach Sunday.
Jeffrey David Clark, 31, was charged with aggravated battery of a pregnant woman.
The woman reportedly told police he had punched her in the face, pushed her down onto her stomach, put a belt around her neck and whispered in her ear that he was going to kill her.
Police said the woman was in the Cape Coral Hospital with concern for the well-being of her unborn child.
Police photographed a bruise under the woman’s left eye and placed the photo into police evidence.
The woman told police Clark was violent with her in the past, and had strangled her with a coat hanger about a month prior, according to reports. The woman’s 2-year-old child reportedly frequently asks Clark to “stop spanking mommy.”
Police notified the Department of Children and Families about the incident.
Clark reportedly told officers the woman threw water at him during an argument and slipped on the water, causing her to fall; he denied any abuse, police said.
Clark had a scratch on his face, which he reportedly said was caused by a cat.
He was taken to the Lee County Jail in apparent good health and was released on $10,000 bond Monday.
The woman did not press charges, reportedly stating she was scared and wanted Clark to “get help.”
She said she would not stay at home because she did not want anything to happen to her unborn child.
