A Cape Coral Ace Hardware employee was arrested for reportedly stealing a $190 fishing reel from the store.

Daniel McGuire, 26, was charged with petit retail theft Tuesday at approximately 4 p.m. and was taken to the Lee County Jail.

McGuire turned himself in on the advice of his lawyer after a customer said he saw McGuire place the Shimano’s fishing reel in his pocket and exit the store, located at 1004 E. Cape Coral Parkway, without paying on April 17. According to reports, McGuire was identified by the witness in a photographic police line-up on May 12.

A manager told police four Shimano fishing reels and two pocketknives had been stolen from the store between Jan. 7 and April 7. Police said McGuire denied stealing the additional items.

The theft of those items remained under investigation Wednesday.
