An accident involving a school bus occurred Tuesday afternoon when a Cape Coral man allegedly violated the bus driver’s right of way.

No injuries were reported.

The crash happened at the intersection of Southwest Santa Barbara Place and Southwest 19th Street at approximately 2:16 p.m. when Mathew Zola, the driver of a late model Nissan, crashed his vehicle into the front driver’s side of the bus, according to an accident report.

The bus was said to be traveling south on Southwest Santa Barbara Place at approximately 5 mph as the driver approached a stop sign, when Zola, westbound on Southwest 19th Street, turned right at the intersection and struck the bus.

Zola was found at fault for failing to yield to the bus. He was cited for no proof of insurance, an expired tag more than six months and an attached sticker not assigned.

The crash caused $6,000 in damages to Zola’s vehicle and $2,000 in damages to the school bus.

The report states Zola was estimated to have been traveling 35 mph in a 30 mph zone.

He was not suspected of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash, according to the report.
