Unknowing killers?

June 24, 2020
Fort Myers Beach Bulletin, Fort Myers Beach Observer

To the editor:

Ordinarily, people would never think of hurting, no less potentially killing other people. Then why do they not wear masks? The COVID-19 virus - already having infected millions and killed over 100,000 in the United States alone - is an airborne infection, sometimes from up to 20 feet away. A person with no symptoms may nevertheless be carrying the virus and unknowingly infect others. The rate of infection from one person to others is about 2.4, exponentially affecting millions. Worldwide experience has shown that the most effective way thus far to stop the spread of the virus, in addition to quarantine and shutdown, is to wear a face mask. So if you see someone not at home without a mask, you are looking at a person who apparently doesn't care about other peoples' lives and who may well be an unknowing killer.
