In a little more than a week's time, the Fort Myers Beach Kids Foundation has raised almost $10,000 to aid local families during the coronavirus pandemic.

Fort Myers Beach Kids Foundation President Linda Beasley said the organization has distributed $100 gift cards to Publix to 80 families with students at The Beach School.

Beasley said the organization contacted The Beach School to identify families who could use the gift cards, while already having the names of 57 families identified last December for holiday presents during the foundation's "Spirit of the Holidays" drive.

Beasley said many of the students at the school are from families who work in the community and have been impacted by the economic fallout from COVID-19. Many town residents have been donating to the Beach Kids Foundation to help the organization assist the families, Beasley said.

Beasley said the organization wants to do more.

"Our entire foundation, board, friends and supporters are focused on raising funds to help our kids. If you would like to help, reach out to our firefighters. They are selling their calendars and all proceeds will go to The Beach Kids Foundation," Beasley said. Beasley said Beach Kids Foundation stickers are also being sold at HammerHeads Beach Gym on Estero Boulevard.

Those interested in donating, can contact Beasley at 239-980-0661. Donations can also be mailed by sending checks written out to The Beach Kids Foundation at 2801 Estero Blvd., Suite B, Fort Myers Beach 33931.
