The Town of Fort Myers Council meeting this month was the site of tributes to former town employee Randy Alexander, who died Dec. 30 after an illness.

"We thoroughly enjoyed him," said a tearful Town of Fort Myers Beach Utilities Director Christy Cory at the meeting. "He was the keeper of the water meters. We'll miss him tremendously. Beach water will never be the same."

Alexander, who was 67, was employed by the town as a water technician at the time of his death. "He was the first to come to work," Cory said. "He was a member of our team at Beach Water for eight years. He was at Town Hall for five years. We're all very close. "

According to his obituary, Alexander was born in Missouri and moved to Fort Myers from Iowa. He was married for 45 years to Kathy Alexander. "His wife and two daughters could greatly use your prayers," Cory said.

"It's a very sad moment," Mayor Anita Cereceda said. She called Alexander's death a "great loss to the town."

Town of Fort Myers Beach Manager Roger Hernstadt called Alexander a "really nice human being."

Hernstadt said Alexander was "always pleasant, always happy. Our town, our county, we're just a better place for having somebody like him."
