Tickets on sale for School House Rock concert featuring Sheena Brook and Bridgette Tatum

By Staff | Jan 16, 2019

A special Winter Concert Series, featuring Sheena Brook and Bridgette Tatum, will be held this month at Fish-Tale Marina as a fundraiser for Fort Myers Beach Elementary School.

Fort Myers Beach Elementary School PE and music teacher Heather Lodovico said they are a small school in the district, a community school that has a tight-knit family feeling where they know all of their students and parents.

“The funding is tough because we are small and isolated. We rely on ourselves and the community to get resources,” she said.

While in a staff meeting one day, they were dreaming of some resources they would love to have for the teachers. After Lodovico began talking to her good friend Sheena Brook, a vision transpired of bringing female songwriters together to share their music, but also supported a cause – raising funds for teachers.

“The one thing I do believe, everyone could come together and agree on, is that the Beach School is incredible with our mission to reach the kids,” she said. “We could raise money for the teachers to have resources they need. We could get some great songwriters in here and put on a great show. If I’m going to do this, I’m going to do it well.”

Conversations were had with Brook, Summer Stockton and Fish-Tale Marina. The marina offered to donate their venue, space and staff and fold the fundraiser into the Winter Concert Series. The Fort Myers Beach Friends of the Arts offered to pay for the sound.

Lodovico was told Fort Myers Beach Elementary School would receive all of the ticket sales.

“I set up a meeting with Sheena. She did spend some time thinking and dreaming of what it would look like. She came back with ‘I will do it,'” she said. “But I want to bring in a friend, someone from Island Hopper, another singer/songwriter, Bridgette Tatum.”

Lodovico said the School House Rock event, taking place Thursday, Jan. 24, from 7-9 p.m., at Fish-Tale Marina, 7225 Estero Blvd., is “like a mini Island Hopper.”

“It’s a fundraiser. Now it’s a kick-ass concert,” she said. “Before I knew it, I have a show.”

Tickets, which are $25, can be purchased at www.fmbarts.org, or at the Beach Elementary PTO.

“I need to pack the house,” Lodovico said of the 315 seats. “We have teachers at our school that need resources. The big thing with the district is they want standards based education. We need resources for that. I’m getting wish lists from the teachers of what they need. We are one of the best schools in the district. We take care of our kids. It’s time to take care of our teachers and give them the resources they need.”
