Local and area artists paint an area of the beach they prefer for the competition, which will include such favorite spots as Bowditch Point, Nervous Nellies, Times Square, Junkanoo and around the shrimp boats.

A reception, art sale and raffle will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3. The event will also include appetizers, refreshments and a donation bar.

"The artwork will be up on the walls for sale from Saturday," Nov. 3, through Nov. 8," she said. "The reception will be held on Saturday night for those who would like to come in and see the paintings and meet the artist."

Stop by the Fort Myers Beach Art Association to view the newest Fall Judged Show, "Off the Cloud," from Nov. 12, through Dec. 6 in Studio 1.

LaPadula said the show is open for members of the Fort Myers Beach Art Association and includes a wide variety of two-dimensional artwork that the public can view and purchase.

"Usually we have about 70 to 80 artists that submit paintings," she said.

National award-winning artist Kathy Durdin will judge the show. LaPadula said receiving of the artwork will begin on Nov. 9, with the judging on Nov. 11 and the start of the "Off the Cloud" show beginning on Nov. 12. Although the show is titled "Off the Cloud," artists had the ability to submit any two-dimensional artwork they desired.

Durdin will provide a demo at the gallery at 4 p.m. Nov. 11, which is $10 to attend.

The public is also invited to join the Fort Myers Beach Art Association for a gallery talk with Penny Fox at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18. The reception and awards ceremony is sponsored by Red Coconut.

"It's a really nice event. Usually the winners are there to talk about the paintings," LaPadula said. "I am going to ask all the artists who win prizes if they would like to say a few words of the painting, or their experience with the painting."

Fort Myers Beach Association gallery is at 3030 Shell Mound Blvd. For more information, call (239) 463-3909, or visit

The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
