Get ready boys and ghouls - the 29th annual Fright Night at Bay Oaks is creeping up on the Beach. This year's fun is ready to haunt from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19.

Costume contests, a haunted trail and, of course, lots of sweet treats for all the little creatures of the night who turn out will be featured at family friendly prices - $4 per participant or $10 for a family of four.

"Last year was the best year yet because we did it so well," said Bay Oaks Recreation Center Director Sean De Palma in an earlier interview. "We had an amazing turnout. We did a survey during it and people loved it, the creativity."

The Costume Contest will offer four or five different age categories.

"The Costume Contest is to die for. Everyone loves it. It's tremendous," De Palma said. "Last year we had a young lady, fourth or fifth grader, decorate herself as an inflatable hot air balloon. It was gorgeous. It was amazing."

A Haunted Trail will be offered outside of the Bay Oaks Recreation Center.

Local businesses and organizations have played a key role to play this year - decorating a chamber for the Haunted House.

There also will also be approximately eight to 11 games inside the center, with small prizes. New this year, attendees will have the opportunity to sing karaoke. Another addition will be a bounce house and play area for children up to 2 years old. This way, parents can allow their young children to take part and not worry about older kids being too active around their smaller children.

Fright Night also provides a tremendous amount of candy to its pre-trick or treaters.

De Palma said they hold a candy drive to bring in enough goodies and welcome more for the event.

Love Boat will selling ice cream. There will also be food for sale.

"There is so much energy. I really enjoy the fact that the community comes out. There is so much energy behind it. It is a really amazing night," De Palma said.

Bay Oaks Recreation Center is at 2731 Oak St.
