Smooth sailing at the Summerset Regatta

The wind was blowing and the sails were out for the 53rd Annual Summerset Regatta this past weekend.

More than 30 sailboats participated in the events on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 6-7. Families and friends headed down to Fort Myers Beach from up and down the coast to compete. The Regatta finished with four different class winners.

In the Spinnaker Division, first place went to Gary Schwarting from Naples. In the non-spinnaker class, first place went to Fort Myers Beach local, Paul McDill. Mike Buscher from Punta Gorda won the True Cruising Class. For the final race, the Cruising boats, the winner went to James Gallagher from Fort Myers.

The 53rd Annual Summerset Regatta set sail off Fort Myers Beach this past weekend. The annual event is organized by the Caloosahatchee Marching and Chowder Society.

"The end result was that everyone was very happy, had a great time on the water and at the parties, all while raising a substantial amount of money for youth sailing here in Southwest Florida," said Allen Fiske, vice commodore of Summerset.

The event is the oldest and longest running regatta in Southwest Florida and is organized by the Caloosahatchee Marching and Chowder Society. The group's mission is to is to "organize and promote sailing activities with emphasis on offshore sailing, racing, and cruising."
