Visitors and residents near Old San Carlos have a new venue to pick up produce and homemade goods.

Lee County's farmers market organizers, Local Roots, opened its first Farm and Art Market on Fort Myers Beach Nov. 7.

Local Roots is owned and operated by Betsey Ventura and Jane Baer. They started running a market on Sanibel and are celebrating 10 years and eight locations. The vendors are varied, from produce stands and barbecue to locally-made artwork and clothing. Sanibel Seafood on San Carlos Island set up a booth called Ralph's Island Seafood to sell fresh seafood.

Terry Townley and Erin Gilbert run a fresh seafood stand, Ralph's Island Seafood, which is a part of Sanibel Seafood on San Carlos Island.

"It will be fun," said Terry Townley of Sanibel Seafood. "I hope people will enjoy it and they don't have to leave the island for fresh seafood now."

The market's first day went well, in Ventura's opinion.

"It's been terrific," she said. "We've had lots of locals taking flyers to spread the word."
