06.21.17 Island Opportunities

June 21, 2017
Jessica Salmond - News Editor ( , Fort Myers Beach Bulletin, Fort Myers Beach Observer

When season is over, it's time for the locals to get out and enjoy the island's food and entertainment scene. It can be hard to get around during season, but once traffic lightens - even with construction - our islanders have lots of delicious or fun choices to make.

From now through September, the Observer will feature a restaurant, bar or business on Fort Myers Beach or San Carlos Island that our readers might like to get out and enjoy.

This week: Heidi's Island Bistro

Can you say comfort food? Heidi's Island Bistro is a haven for that hearty, home-cooked meal just like your grandmother made. Showcasing her German roots, owner Heidi Wimmer's dishes bring you the best of German cuisine, such as goulash soup and schnitzel. Being on a tropical paradise, Heidi's menu includes seafood dishes, too. But don't stop after the entree. The bakery's got you covered for decadent cakes and pastries, too, which can also be ordered in advance and purchased for parties and events.

Heidi's is open from 8 9 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Ramona Jones, one of the waitstaff, said the eggs benedict is the most popular breakfast item; for dinner, it's the Bavarian plate or the special, which changes daily.

Heidi's provides a warm, cozy atmosphere great for family dinners or a romantic date. Beer and wine are served.

"The experience here is like you're at home," she said.

Heidi's is located in the Gulf View Shops, 2943 Estero Boulevard.
