After somewhat of a surprise trip out west and a maze of blind auditions, one of our very own island talents, Sheena Brook, has advanced on The Voice, the hit TV series competition that searches for the best of the best unsigned musical talent from around the country. Sheena has landed a spot on Team Adam (Levine), and says the entire journey so far has been a fantastic thrill ride.

"It's been an amazing, amazing crazy train -- it's awesome!" she said, as the pre-taped blind auditions recently aired. "It doesn't even feel like a competition -- everyone wants everyone to win. There is just so much talent, and I have so much respect for the show."

Sheena shares that the group of coaches (Adam Levine, Alicia Keys, Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani) are all very uplifting and positive, and they want each of their teammates to be themselves and perform what they enjoy.

Be sure to tune into NBC’s The Voice every
Monday and Tuesday, starting at 8 p.m., to
cheer on Sheena Brook, a very talented
musician from right here, Fort Myers Beach!

"From the very beginning, they want you to just do a good job and be yourself, be the artist you want to be. They genuinely want you to succeed," she said. "Every person on the staff has that attitude every coach wants that. It's such a beautiful, positive atmosphere. I already feel like I've grown so much in all kinds of ways: as a singer, as a better person and a more confident person. I feel very honored to be a part of this team and to be a part of the few who gets to experience this."

A regular performing musician on and around Fort Myers Beach, Sheena enjoys singing, playing guitar and playing piano the most. Like many artists, she's very modest, but her wife, Summer Stockton, knew she had what it takes to make it, and surprised her with a trip out to the show's auditions.

"We were in Atlanta when she finally filled me in as to where we were really going," Sheena laughed. "Like any ambitious person, I write my own music, and she was always telling me I should try out. I just never thought, of all the talent in the world, who would take me. Summer signed me up, threw me in the truck, and these are the kinds of people that change your circumstances in life all the positive things in your life."

Fact Box

"Success, in my opinion, is about finding -- not necessarily fame -- but the balance of ambition and contentment."

She said her wife then told her, "You don't have to win, you don't have to get accepted. You just have to go in and try. Believe in yourself and be confident in who you are and always move forward."

"And now to be one in 48 people to move forward, it's just such an overwhelming honor," Sheena said.

Celebrating their one-year anniversary in July, Sheena said "(Summer)'s the best thing that's ever happened to me. We met at BackStreets while I was performing there in 2014, and as soon as I met her, my whole life changed. She really believed in me, wants to see me happy."

Since breezing through the blind auditions with flying colors and being placed on Team Adam, Sheena had the chance to show the world the little strip of paradise on which she resides, Fort Myers Beach.

"I've felt so much love from my town -- all over Lee County, really -- but especially on the Beach. Having the ability to represent the island, really having the chance to show what a beautiful town we live in, what a beautiful melting pot of people it is -- I was so proud of that, and it's one of my favorite things so far in this competition. I'm really proud to live here."

So, where does Sheena go from here?

"As the pre-taped part of the show has recently wrapped up with the blind auditions, now you'll just have to watch and find out what happens after that," she teased. "Tune in every Monday and Tuesday night on NBC. You'll always enjoy the show -- there is just so much talent."

Want to catch Sheena at one of her local gigs? Stop by La Ola Wednesdays between 2 and 5 p.m., or Friday nights, from 7 to 10 p.m. She also performs at the Naples Beach Brewery Thursday nights, from 6 to 9 p.m., and available to perform at private functions, as well.

"I'm also doing a couple of private home concerts up and down Florida -- I like to stay busy," Sheena laughed. "My wife is amazing and books, like, 90 percent of my shows. She's really supportive."

"I respond pretty much to everything -- each individual person who likes a musician's page, who shares their videos, who comes out to see you, success is made up of everyone out there who shows their support in some way," she said. "Success, in my opinion, is about finding -- not necessarily fame -- but the balance of ambition and contentment."

We wish you the very best of luck, Sheena, and are cheering you on from our little island paradise!
