Pet Pals rescue column: Week of July 27

Precious Bruser: Lean on me!

This little guy was found on the street. He was timid at first but quickly started to warm up. He is very laid back and loves to lean on you. He looks like a dachshund mix, maybe mixed with chihuahua, very handsome and has beautiful markings. He was going to be put down after being so scared at the shelter, so we stepped in to stop that. We introduced him to another dog we took and he was completely nonchalant about it. He's a super cute little guy who will come out of his shell in the right home. He has a great body shape as well. He weighs only 12 pounds. If you would like to meet sweet little Bruser, please call Bebe, 941-444-9444.

Meet our senior dog, Red

Article Photos

As you know, our Rescue does loves seniors! We don't take them very often, however, we truly believe that no older dogs should finish their life in a Shelter waiting to die. Red was in a Shelter for over 45 days under stress meds and was not getting better. There was no chance for him to get adopted, since he wasn't a young pup, but there was something about this gentle soul. The Shelter was not sure about his age. Red acts like a 6 year old dog and has great white teeth. He first came to Connie's house (foster mom) where it took him a few days to get warmed up.

This is what we call "True Rescue." The best reward is to see day after day and week after week how these dogs change with the love they receive. If interested in helping, please call Helena, 239-272-6633.

This beautiful, sweet girl was found on the street a year ago and adopted to a family who had no time for her. Ava stayed in a crate all day and night long. If you know the breed, you'll know Border Collies are very active and need room to play and run. This sweet girl is now in boarding and plays very well in groups. She will need a little adjustment, however, but won't take very long to adapt to a new active family. No more cages day and night. Ava is a free spirit who needs to finally find her forever home.

She is micro-chipped, vaccinated and spayed. If interested in meeting her, please fill out the application online at or call Helena, 239-2726633.

Bambi: A li'l lover boy

This is the story of a little guy named Bambi. He spent most of his life outside in a yard. He was brought to the Shelter after his owner moved and didn't have room for him. How sad! Bambi lost his mind there. He was so scared (and shaking) that he was going to be euthanized. We took him in our Rescue and didnt know how he was going to be, since we had little info. We brought him to boarding and discovered a really funny, lovable little guy! He's sociable and fine with other dogs. He is crate trained, housebroken and a little lover! If interested in meeting this little guy, please fill out the pet app online at: He is 2 years old and 14 pounds. Please call 239-281-0739.

Beautiful baby Madene

Madene was saved from a very high-kill shelter in the middle of the state, and was going to be euthanized that afternoon. Fortunately we were able to pull her and bring her to safety. Many followers on Facebook wanted to help so she could have a great life with a loving family. We do not think she was ever abused. She is very cute and funny, and will come right up to you giving you kisses.

She is dog friendly, beautiful and leash trained already. She's still a puppy, crate trained and loves her toys. Absolutely adorable 28-pound girl. She doesn't chew anything and can be left alone without any issues. Her adoption fee includes her spay, vaccines and microchip. If you would like to meet Madene, please call Helena, 239-272-6633
