BINGO fund-raiser for little Oliver at Val’s Lounge Thursday night

July 13, 2016
Fort Myers Beach Bulletin, Fort Myers Beach Observer

The Tabarrini Foundation will be hosting a BINGO?fund-raiser at Val's Lounge, 17264 San Carlos Blvd., for a local child Thursday, July 14, from 5 to 9 p.m. Continuing the fund-raising fun, the Sideshow Bob show at the Buddha that evening, from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m., will also help the cause.

Oliver was born nearly 12 weeks early, weighing only 2.5 pounds. As a result of a lack of oxygen around the time of birth, he has Spastic Diplegic Cerebral Palsy, which causes his muscles to be abnormally tight. Friends of the family say he can walk with a walking frame, but finds it too difficult outside of the house, so he prefers to use his wheelchair when he's out and about. They continued, "He is often uncomfortable and very tired because his body has to work very hard to do every little thing. Despite this, Oliver rarely complains about the physiotherapy and many hospital appointments, not to mention the activities he misses out on due to being disabled."

Benefit organizers say there is no cure for cerebral palsy, but Oliver has been offered hope in the form of a life-changing operation called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR). This operation, followed by intensive physiotherapy will give Oliver much better mobility, increase his independence, as well as making him generally more comfortable and reducing the need for orthopaedic surgeries in the future.
