Sunset Beach Tropical Grill hosts its first big beach concert Saturday

Show features Ballyhoo, The Detectives, Resinated and The Chris Kemp Duo

It's been a while since Fort Myers Beach hosted a large all-day music festival, and Sunset Beach Tropical Grill, 1028 Estero Blvd., is eager to get it goin' again, featuring Ballyhoo and other bands live Saturday, Feb. 27, with the show kicking off at noon, going until 9 p.m., followed by an after party at the new island establishment.

"This is our first big permitted show at the Sunset Beach Tropical Grill, and we are happy to get involved to organize big events like this for the beach community and for Sunset Beach," said John Howard, general manager of the island eatery and tiki lounge. "We're happy to start getting more awareness about big events like this on Fort Myers Beach again everywhere around us has been presenting really great music events lately Cape Coral, Fort Myers, Naples it's really starting to drive the town, and I think Fort Myers Beach, itself, needs a big event like this."

Ballyhoo is a national rock/pop/punk/reggae band from Aberdeen, Md., and have put out quite a few albums since first hitting the scene several years ago. One of their recent singles, Mixtape, has received great reviews.

The national recording artists of Ballyhoo will be headlining Sunset Beach Tropical Grill’s first all-day music festival Saturday, Feb. 27, kicking off at noon, and will also feature The Chris Kemp Duo, The Detectives and Resinated.

With Ballyhoo headlining the island show at 7 p.m. that evening, local musicians The Chris Kemp Duo will be kicking off the event at noon, followed by The Detectives at 3 p.m., and Resinated at 6.

"Ballyhoo has been a national touring band for quite some time; they're one of those great bands who perform live really well they've done three shows in Fort Myers they were always awesome great times, good people," John said. We wanted to bring them to town on a larger scale, hoping for 500 to 800 people that day."

The Sunset Beach Tropical Grill was sure to obtain a permit for the all day, all ages rock show, so fans can enjoy plenty of other fun during the festival, including prizes, giveaways, contests, cornhole tourneys, beer pong and plenty more.

"We'll be offering drink specials both beer and some liquor, as well as cooking food outside at the show, with burgers and hot dogs," John said. "After the show, the official after party will be taking place at the Sunset Beach Tropical Grill."

Using this show as a gauge, John and his staff are hoping to continue the all-day permitted festivals and concerts in the near future.

"We'd love to continue organizing big events like this on Fort Myers Beach," he said. "This is going to be a lot of fun a nice, big beach party."

The stage will be set up in the parking lot next to the building, and event parking will be offered along Crescent and First streets

Presale tickets are available for $15 each through Friday, which includes a complimentary beer, and may be purchased at SunsetBeachTropicalGrill.com, on EventBrite's website by searching "Ballyhoo Fort Myers Beach," or at the island eatery. VIP entrance is only available during presale for $25, and additionally includes preferred seating, a meet-and-greet with the bands following the show, and access to a private bar. General admission tickets the day of the show at the gate will be $25.
