Let the countdown begin! Celebrating New Year's Eve on Fort Myers Beach

Looking to ring in the new year in style among fellow islanders? As you know, New Year's Eve day (Thursday, Dec. 31) is our town's 20th birthday, so an all-day celebration will be taking place in Times Square. (See the Observer cover story and page 30 for full details on all that fun, excitement and live music.)

Many of our local island hot spots, restaurants and watering holes are also proud to offer patrons very special New Year's Eve celebrations. It's advised you call ahead of time to make reservations, as spots can fill up often and quick! Here's just a sampling of who is offering what Dec. 31 Happy, HAPPY?New Year to all!

Island View Lounge, Lani Kai

The Island View atop the Lani Kai will be offering a very special, savory holiday dinner, served from 5 to 10 p.m. New Year's Eve, featuring a three-course menu for $40, which will also include a complimentary New Year's Champagne toast. Special pricing on bottles of Champagne, prosecco and white and red wines will also be available that evening.

Appetizers may include wonton fish tacos, Maryland crab cakes and jumbo shrimp, along with lobster bisque or house salad; entree choices of lobster tail, stuffed shrimp scampi, lobster ravioli and filet mignon, among others.

Enjoy the fireworks on the beach from the top-floor eatery with three seatings of 5, 7 and 9 p.m.

Sunset Beach Tropical Grill

Come by this new island establishment's first New Year's Eve celebration, offering party favors, a complimentary Champagne toast at midnight, special food and drink menu, live entertainment, and of course a great spot to enjoy the fireworks display.

Reservations are recommended, with seatings at 4, 6, 8 and 10 p.m.

Matanzas on the Bay

Matanzas on the Bay plans to offer New Year's dinner specials, live music and more. The bayfront eatery is ringing in the New Year by offering guests two evenings of food specials and live music, featuring a special New Year's Eve appearance from Father Al and the Jazz Congregation from 6 to 9 p.m., and a performance from Wendell Ray Friday, Jan. 1, from 6 to 9 p.m.

"With talented artists and delicious food, what better way to ring in the New Year than right on Fort Myers Beach, overlooking the bay?" said Glen Petrarca, general manager of the establishment. "We are excited to offer two great evenings of fun and food, and we hope the community will join us in giving 2016 a warm, Fort Myers Beach welcome."

As part of its commitment to use as many locally sourced products as possible, Matanzas offers fresh produce in partnership with Oakes Farm, rum from the Wicked Dolphin Rum Distillery and draft beer from Fort Myers Brewery. Its upstairs sports bar, Petey's Upper Deck, is popularly known for its Dave's Dockside Pizza. Free car parking and boat dockage is available.

Castaway's Bar and Grill

Castaway's will be offering a delicious three-course dinner menu you unlimited tap beer, house wines and well drinks all for $50. Enjoy live entertainment and more during this annual celebration at the south-end establishment. Call for reservations.
