Helping a great local cause is getting artsy Sunday, as Something to Wine About hosts a very special paint party fund-raiser to benefit Turtle Time, Inc., the local non-profit group dedicated to preserving the lives of nesting sea turtles along the shorelines of Fort Myers Beach, taking place at Junkanoo on the Beach, 3040 Estero Blvd., Sunday, Nov. 8, from 4 to 7 p.m.

"Everything is going really well," said Michelle Morgan, lead coordinator of the inaugural benefit. "We have 20 seats that are available, and many already claimed, and we'd love for this to be a full house."

During the creative benefit, local artist Laura Ball will show event-goers how to paint a very special tropical scene, featuring our local sea turtles.

A very special fund-raising Something to Wine About paint party will be held at Junkanoo on the Beach Sunday, Nov. 8, from 4 to 7 p.m., to help raise funds for the local Turtle Time, Inc. charity organization. Benefit-goers will have fun painting a beautiful beach/sea turtle scene while enjoying complimentary wine, hors d’oeuvres and more, all while supporting a fantastic local cause. "Laura is a very talented artist," Michelle said. "I knew she was a crafty individual, and asked if she would host a paint party at my house one day. It went so well that she turned her craft into a business, and we're very eager that she will be our talented artist during the benefit. Everything is included for our guests the tools, paint, canvases, and we will also serve wine and light pairing snacks, a chocolate fountain and hors d'oeuvres."

All those attending will also be entered into a raffle drawing for a $50 gift certificate to Fresh Catch/Junkanoo, and each will also receive a very special customized take-home gift, along with the masterpiece they create that day. Guests will have a step-by-step walk-through on how to create their very own sea turtle masterpiece by artist Laura Ball.

"Even if you don't want to paint, we encourage onlookers to stop by and watch the process in the upstairs loft where we'll be. Eve Haverfield and her Turtle Time volunteers will be set up during the benefit, offering their knowledge of the organization and what it's all about, and once we're finished painting, we'll be gathering downstairs of Junkanoo, where the party can continue," Michelle said. "As the cost to participate is $50, with $20 from each entry going directly to Turtle Time, if we filled all 20 spots, we'd raise $400 for the foundation. Also, as Turtle Time will be set up during the benefit, additional donations made directly to the charity will also be welcomed."

Michelle explains why she decided to host a fund-raiser to benefit Turtle Time, Inc. "I certainly wanted to host something to help our local sea life. Shortly after thinking of hosting a benefit, I read a story in the paper about Turtle Time, and thought it went together perfectly. We're so lucky to be in an environment around sea turtles and their natural habitat and then to have this wonderful non-profit group that helps them, it's just awesome. And, I?have so much respect and admiration for Eve [Haverfield] and all that she does. I'm really looking forward to meeting someone who puts such great effort into a wonderful cause."

As mentioned earlier, the cost to attend the paint party benefit is $50, with $20 of that going directly to Turtle Time, Inc., and is all-inclusive, with wine, other refreshments, pairings and hors d'oeuvres, a customized take-home gift and completed painting.

"It's been a great go-with-the-flow turnout so far, and I'm really thankful for all those who've signed up, and all the interest we've received as well as all those who have helped and contributed to making this a wonderful benefit for such a great local cause. Whether you have an interest in wine, sea turtles, or the Fort Myers Beach area, itself, we'll laugh and toast to all three Sunday," Michelle said.

The benefit is open to all ages and artists of all skill levels (even if you've never picked up a brush in your life); all are welcome to either participate or stop by to watch the painters in action and chat with Turtle Time.

About Turtle Time, Inc.

Turtle Time, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the continued survival of loggerhead sea turtles. Established in 1989, the group is the Florida state-permitted monitoring organization for sea turtle activity from Fort Myers Beach to the Lee-Collier County line.

Daily patrols during the nesting season are conducted to gather important scientific data about population estimates, distribution of nests, nesting patterns and hatching success rates.

Dead or injured sea turtles are examined and dealt with as necessary. The information is transmitted to a national sea turtle stranding network. For further information on the local group, visit
