Locals stand united for clean water during Labor Day weekend bridge demonstration

September 3, 2015
Fort Myers Beach Bulletin, Fort Myers Beach Observer

A special Labor Day weekend gathering is planned for Sunday, Sept. 6 along the Mantanzas Bridge to continue raising awareness and demand an end to the Lake O releases into Southwest Florida waterways.

Participants will form a line united for clean water at noon, standing together at the apex of the inner sidewalk of the bridge to celebrate and promote clean water as a basic human right.

"This is another way to keep the pressure on our local and state politicians when it comes to reducing the effects of the Lake O releases that allow toxic waters down our river, into our estuaries and eventually onto our beaches," said John Heim, organizer of the gathering. "Come and join us as we take the message to our bridge on Labor Day weekend."
