Looking to get crafty on the bay this weekend??Well, you're in luck, as Matanzas on the Bay, 416 Crescent St., is hosting a special art event, a Bottlecap Snook Workshop, Saturday, Aug. 29, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., led by local artist Victoria Hubacz of Art by Victoria.

A combination of bar and artwork, "bartwork" is the utilization of various beer bottlecaps to complete a one-of-a-kind nautical design. During the outdoor workshop, participants will create their very own snook fish piece to take home.

"This is the first time offering a bottlecap course, and I'm really excited about it. People will have a lot of fun," the local artist said. She explained how the whole bartwork idea came about. "It was a spur-of-the moment idea. I made one with a friend of mine, helping him out. After he made his, I was so excited that I?had to do my own I?bought a jigsaw and went at it, cutting the wood, collecting bottlecaps from Matanzas and other local bars. Glen [Petrarca, general manager of the establishment] thought it was really cool, so after I completed the bottlecap piece for Matanzas, many commented that they'd love me to make one for them, and aked how to do it. I thought teaching the course would be perfect, so they can each make one personalized to exactly what they'd want. It's a great piece to create and the perfect size that should be able to be finished that day, so they'll have a nice piece of art to take home; my friend taught me and I'd love to teach others."
