Activity Details

There are a lot of activities scheduled this week. More details on Community Room events can be found on the bulletin board in the Library Commons on the third floor.

Dementia is an overall term that describes a wide range of symptoms associated with a decline in memory or other thinking skills severe enough to reduce a person's ability to perform everyday activities. Join Angel Duncan on March 25 as she defines what dementia actually is and how one can understand the various signs & symptoms.

Mah Jongg

We get frequent requests for scheduling Mah Jongg. If you are fairly adept at the game and would be open to being available at these sessions to assist those who desire to learn, please talk with me. We can work out a schedule that works with your activities, and at the same time you'll give others a chance to enjoy Mah Jongg.

Nature's Stewart

Nick Penniman, author of Nature's Stewart, returns on March 25 to provide insights in looking at growth management and the SW FL Conservancy.

Registered nurse Valley Taylor will offer ideas for relaxation exercises on March 26. Her focus will include creative visualization and breathing techniques. We received a lot of upbeat feedback after the last session about how simple, how helpful the ideas were. As most of us can use some assistance in this regard, jot this event on your schedule.

More health inducing ideas are shared this week. First on March 27, Tracey Kinnunen will provide an overview of music therapy. And on the same day, Bobbi Armando will present the benefits of reflexology and how the foot relates to the rest to the rest of your body. Both are scheduled at 1:30 p.m.

Local Environment

More options are available for appreciating what lies in our own backyard. Kristin Anders will help participants get familiar with twenty or so of the most easily recognizable birds in SW FL on March 30 at 10:30 a.m.

On the same day but at 1:30 p.m. Joanne Semmer of the Ostego Bay Foundation Marine Science Center will share insights about the Estero Bay estuary and its marine life.

Practice drawing on March 31 with option for assistance from instructor Jeanette Swensen.

Or view a demo on the steps in the art of decorating eggs in the traditional Ukrainian style. This art is called pysanky, which means "drawing" in Ukrainian.

Lighthouses mark reefs, safe entries to harbors, mark dangerous coastlines and can assist in aerial navigation. In addition to these practical considerations, they have a fascinating history. Join Alice Mack who will share stories and history that she has discovered about these sentinels on our shore.

If you can spend four hours a week one day a week in helping out in the bookstore in the Library Commons, please fill out an application available on the first floor or send an email to

Library Hours

When we are closed, the hours of operation are included in a recording when you call in. Stop by Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.; on Wednesday between 9 and 7; and on Saturday between 9 and 1. We look forward to seeing you.
