Event Details

Merchant ship captain, writer of novels and marine artist and illustrator, Roger Horton is here Feb. 27 to share the adventure of writing and marine life.

Local author Artis Henderson, on March 3, will highlight the journey of writing along with her experiences that called out for sharing as she dealt with her husband's death in Iraq.

Shell Crafts

It's almost a regular experience that those who participate in the Shell Crafts class comment that they wish they had known about it sooner. On Feb 25, have fun with Shell Crafts.

Jeanie London will offer assistance on using seashells in your projects. Bring your own shells or use some that are provided. Bring along a glue-gun and glue stick if possible. Pre-register and $5 materials fee.

Local History

We get requests for local history and the presentation "History of Fort Myers Beach," on Feb 26, seeks to respond to that. Russ Carter, long time resident and president of the Estero Island Historic Society, will offer fascinating glimpses into this place in Paradise.

The presentation on March 2 will highlight local people and events in the greater Fort Myers area with connections to World War I and II. Author John Sheppard has done careful research and will share a discussion worth your time.

If you would like to eat or drink coffee, please go the Library Commons on the third floor. The Bookmark Cafe' is open on that floor on Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

If you must drink in the library proper on the first or second floor, use water in an enclosed bottle. No eating here, please. These commonsense manners enable staff to concentrate on their tasks, avoid stains on the furniture or floor, reduce cleaning expense, and lessen the possibility of pests.

The cafe' is open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Manager Tara is able to regularly tempt those who frequent often and is there to offer the occasional user a delicious cup of coffee or beverage or snack.

Beachcomber Books, the Friends of the Library bookstore on the third floor, is in need of volunteers to help cover a shift once a week. Even if you can do just two or three months that would be a help. The store manager had a misfall a few months ago and usually covered many hours in a week, but is simply not available for a month yet. If you're able to assist, please leave a message for Pat, and she'll call you back. You can also send an email to .

Bookstore shifts are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. or 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Holy Land

Steve & Jackie's Trip to the Holy Land is exactly what the title says and is presented on March 3.

More details on events and talks are given on a poster available on the bulletin board in the Library Commons on the third floor. A visual glimpse is included on the large screens on the second and third floor. The calendar of events is available at the Staff Assistance stations on the first and second floor, and our website.

When we are closed a recorder gives the hours we are open. When open, we answer the phone in person. Hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Wednesday 9 to 7; and Saturday 9 to 1. All gates close when the library closes. We look forward to seeing you.
