Bargain-Hunter's Treasure Trove - Sixth annual Main Street Bazaar & Yard Sale hits the pavement Saturday

January 14, 2015
Fort Myers Beach Bulletin, Fort Myers Beach Observer

Everything is set. Signs are going up. Communities are ready. Bargain-hunters are preparing their Main Street itineraries for the day. The sixth annual Main Street Bazaar and Yard Sale is under way, hitting the pavement Saturday, Jan. 17, beginning early that morning at 8 a.m., and a pancake breakfast just a little earlier than that. What started as a gathering that attracted 500 to 600 has grown much larger; as each year passes, more and more bargain-hunters make it out to this annual affair, and this year, coordinators plan to see a record high around the 2,000 mark.

"Be sure to start the day at Oyster Bay with a pancake breakfast prior to the sale kicking off," said bazaar coordinator Bill Arendt. "It's great, as the Main Street businesses, communities and individuals come together for a fun-filled day with bargains galore. The nice part is that all of the communities in the neighborhood are coming together, like one big community."

Bargain-shoppers can stop by most of the communities along Main Street and up through Buttonwood, including Sportman's Cove, Ebb Tide and Port Carlos Cove, as sellers bring out their items for purchase anything ranging from clothing, shoes, toys, games, jewelry and accessories to furniture, electronics, books, kitchen gadgets, sporting goods and more.

It’ll be a bargain-hunter’s dream along Main Street Saturday morning.

"You just never know what you're going to find. And there will also be other treats and goodies offered within the communities, like soups, full lunches and baked goods to fuel you up for more bargain hunting."

As all of Main Street is participating, Bill encourages shoppers to carpool and, rather than parking along the road, which clogs up the street for incoming and outgoing traffic, park for free in any of the large lots open for the sale, including the old Beach Seafood parking lot, the open lot across from Oyster Bay, the open lot across from Parrot Key, and at the end of Main Street in the Port Carlos Cove community, near its clubhouse.

Many businesses along Main Street are also offering something special to treasure-hunters that day. Be sure to see the full list following this feature for the low-down.

"The other businesses along Main Street who don't necessarily have merchandise or items for sale have been very supportive of the events taking place, and cheer on the bargain-hunting crowd," Bill said.

Come out, bring your friends, bring your bicycles, good pair of walking shoes, your cash and your coolers and have a great time bargain-hunting on the island."
