Ugly Sweater Party - New island hot spot offers fun holiday celebration Monday

December 17, 2014
Fort Myers Beach Bulletin, Fort Myers Beach Observer

One of the newest hot spots on Fort Myers Beach, Dock O' the Bay Bar and Grill, 19001 San Carlos Blvd., has come out swinging, offering fresh eats, drinks, live music throughout the week and a breath-taking view of Hurricane Bay.

The staff is excited to announce its first Ugly Christmas Sweater Party, taking place Monday, Dec. 22, starting at 6 p.m., and invites everyone to dig up their most horrid holiday sweaters to show them off all night long.

"I've been doing ugly Christmas Sweater Parties in St. Louis for 20 years, and it never gets old," said Karen Brown, server of the all-new eatery. "We want you to go all out bells, lights, tinsel, glitter, just go crazy with it."

The all-new Dock O’ the Bay staff is excited to announce its first Ugly Christmas Sweater party, taking place Monday evening, Dec. 22, starting at 6 p.m. Look forward to lots of great specials and offers, live music from Tommy V, and the one wearing the ugliest sweater will be awarded a $50 bar tab. The one wearing the most hideously horrible ugly Christmas sweater that night will be awarded a $50 bar tab, with judging taking place during the party until about 9 p.m. The award will be given shortly after that.

As this is the same night Dock O' the Bay offers Service Industry Night (every Monday), enjoy great deals for those in the service industry, featuring happy hour pricing, $2 domestic bottles, drafts and well drinks, $3 house wines and $4 Fireball shots for anyone wearing an ugly Christmas sweater. Play in the cornhole tournament, and enjoy the sights and sounds of local musician Tommy V.

"It's going to be a lot of fun. Just get yourself decked out, show up and have a blast," Karen said.

There is no cost to attend and all are welcome to join the party whether or not you're rocking an ugly Christmas sweater.

Dock O' the Bay opened its doors Nov. 13 and has been a new staple to the beach scene since. The pet-friendly establishment boasts more than 80 outdoor seats along the bay (heated, during our chillier months), 80 beers on tap, along with a full bar, a busy schedule filled with live music and other fun entertainment, and a menu that's loaded with varieties for any appetite.

"We have fantastic food. Our executive chef, Chris Kreger, is very talented, winning many awards in the past for his creations," Karen said. "Our Boom Boom shrimp is delicious our beef stroganoff we have a French dip sandwich made with our prime rib meat on a Cuban roll, with cheese. It's all so, so good."

Throughout the week, enjoy all types of fun and games. Monday is Service Industry night, offering happy hour prices to those in the service industry. Also partake in the cornhole tournament and enjoy live music from Tommy V. Tuesday is karaoke night. Wednesday through Saturday, enjoy live bands, as well as other great solo acts Sunday.

"We have great music throughout the week and plan to offer other special events and parties throughout the year, too," Karen said. "We'll have a New Year's Eve celebration with live entertainment through 12:30 a.m., along with a champagne toast and happy hour from 4 to 10 p.m., along with $2.50 mimosas, bloody marys and screwdrivers. And coming up sometime around April, we're planning to have a Prom Night party."

Look forward to an official grand opening celebration sometime in the coming weeks, as well.

Owners of Dock O' the Bay are Jack and Angie Dawson. General managers are Stu Carlson and Troy Cannedy, and of course, executive chef Chris Kreger.

Dining room hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, and bar hours are 11 a.m. to midnight. For further information on this new eatery, visit DockOTheBay.com or call 239-765-0429.
