Attention, all motor-heads, car-lovers and engine enthusiasts: Get ready to feast your eyes on what's known as pure eye candy, as the staff of Parrot Key, 2500 Main St., gets ready to host its annual Caribbean Cruise-In Classic Car Show, roaring out of the gate Monday, Oct. 6, at 5 p.m.

As all are welcome to join in the show with their own vehicle, or stop by to peruse everyone else's, you just never know what you'll see month to month. The entries are sure to change, just like our hot, Florida weather, keeping each and every show lively and fresh.

"This is one of the most fun events we do every year. People really love walking around and seeing the different cars. By then the weather has cooled down a bit. It is such a fun time," said Darrell Hanson, owner of Salty Sam's Waterfront Adventures. "You just never know what you'll see it's different at every show. One show, you'll see six Woodys parked side by side, the next show it's a bunch of new exotics."

The first of Parrot Key’s seasonal monthly Cruise-In car shows kicks off Monday, Oct. 6, at the 2500 Main St. location. Whether you're into classic muscle and hard-core rumbling engines, vintage rat rods and Model Ts, sophisticated Astin Martin power-machines or perhaps more modern, sleek, dare I say quiet engines, you're bound to have fun at Parrot Key's monthly car shows. Stop by to see Roger and his infamously meticulous Model T and Jerry with his spotless GTO, that can pass for showroom model precision.

You'll see anything from Shelbys, Chevys and Bentleys to Lambos, Porsches and Ferraris and beyond!

All those who enter their car in the show receive a discount coupon on food that evening, and has a chance to win in multiple categories, as well as take part in an array of special raffle prizes called off all night. Those attending as car-show viewers can enjoy all of the jet-fueled fun while voicing their opinion on their favorite entry in the People's Choice division.

"Darrell and Parrot Key are awarding great prizes to the winners of each category, from $25 and $40 gift certificates to T-shirts, drink vouchers and more. And car-show guests also have the chance to win something in the raffle, awarding anything from sunset cruises for two, half-day boat rentals at Salty Sam's, tickets aboard the Key West Express and much more."

Car-show guests are also encouraged to take part in the trivia, hosted by DJ?Frank Torino throughout the event between sets of hot car-show spinning tracks. Those who answer the questions properly have another shot at winning all types of great prizes and merchandise.

"It's a real family fun event. Come on out and bring the kids," said Jim George, general manager of Parrot Key. "Everyone loves to see a pretty car, everyone has a favorite. The shows draw people in of all age groups, bringing in people from all over the area people who have cars, people who love cars and people who love to show them off. It's a great time, and gives you a chance to meet other car owners and share the knowledge."

The car show kicks off at 5 p.m., but many car-show entrants arrive a little earlier to set up their parking spot and then enjoy some tasty treats and refreshments, with Parrot Key's happy hour from 3 to 6 p.m. Judging begins around 7 p.m.

"So far, to date, our biggest show was 165 cars, with vehicles parked as far down as our boat storage bay," Darrell said. "On average, we'll have a good 80 to 100 cars at the shows, but you just never know until that day."

So, whether you're stopping by to browse, show off, or perhaps a little bit of both, you're sure to have a blast any way you look at it.

There is no charge for either car-show entrants or car-show guests. All are welcome to stop by for some big-engined fun for all. For more information, visit MyParrotKey.com or call Parrot Key, 463-3257.
