Fort Myers Beach Bulletin, Fort Myers Beach Observer

Whether it's classic rock, country or blues, Freedom & Family Weekend at JetBlue Park in Fort Myers Sept. 27 and 28 will feature a top-flight lineup of solo and band performers that span the music genre.

Michael Case, president of Classic Auto Restoration Specialist Inc., coordinator of the event, says show promoters rate this lineup as one of the most diversely talented ones ever assembled in the region.

Headlining Saturday will be Brian Howe, former lead singer for Bad Company who has been a strong supporter of veteran's events. Howe played a five-show Iraq and Kuwait tour to entertain the troops overseas in 2010, including the "Change of Command ceremony" in Baghdad. The mini-tour was funded and supported by the U.S. Forces Iraq/Entertainment Branch.

Also in the JetBlue Saturday is Maggie Baugh, the 13-year-old songwriter and musician who has been lighting up the country music world with her fresh stage presence. Her career has soared to new levels, highlighted by a stage appearance with Charlie Daniels, for whom she played fiddle for in the country classic, "The Devil Went Down to Georgia."

Also on the main stage Saturday will be One Night Rodeo, an American contemporary country duo out of Bradenton, which recently won the Great American Country and Music Nation's Next GAC Star competition and has opened for superstars such as Rascal Flatts, Keith Urban and Montgomery Gentry; Southern Rock's Finest, an all star lineup of seasoned musicians from some of the industry's leading Southern Rock bands, including Molly Hatchet, Gregg Allman, Marshall Tucker, Rebel Pride and Pure Prairie League; and Grayson Rogers, a Cape Coral based group which has quickly grown into one of Florida's up-and-coming country bands. Grayson Rogers has been on a radio tour to promote their single "Party Rocker".

Redemption, a classic rock tribute band and Ellie Lee and the Blues Fury will also appear Saturday. Lee, the blues guitarist/singer/songwriter, fronts the band with her soulful voice and has been acclaimed for her ripping guitar solos and her obvious joy in performing.

Also on stage Sunday will be Kim Betts and Gamble Creek Band, a country tribute band known for its strong vocal harmonies and guitar/fiddle/mandolyn solos. Front person for the band is Kimberly Betts, the daughter of Dickey Betts, a founding member of the Allman Brother's Band and a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Freedom & Family Weekend will ALSO feature military vehicles and reenactments, hot rod and classic car show, motorcycle rally, a recruit and JROTC competition, Whispering Pines Clydesdale Horse Rides, and military museum displays that help honor of veterans. Show tickets are $10 Saturday and $7 Sunday; parking is $5. On Sunday, admission is free for children 12 and under, children wearing a uniform, and active or retired military with ID.
