Mobile Relief - Local mammogram bus offers services on Fort Myers Beach for those with or without insurance

It's imperative women from the ages of 40 and up get a mammogram every one to two years, or earlier if breast cancer has been detected within their families. But, many local women have trouble getting that important check-up. Either they're too far from a testing location with no transportation, hard at work during open lab hours, or just don't have enough funds or insurance to get it done. The folks with Fish-Tale Marina know this is a very important preventative measure, and have reserved the Mammo Bus, through Radiology Regional, to come to the Santini Marina Plaza every couple of months or so, offering on-the-spot mammograms for anyone who can make it to the south-island location, including those without insurance.

"We've all been affected by cancer, through so many of our families; we feel that this is an important community service that we offer, because we have the facility here to do it, we have the room to bring them in," said Georgia Reinsult, marketing director of Fish-Tale Marina. "It's really nice that they come here, and so nice that you can have it done regularly here, right on the island."

Radiology Regional Center offers Mobile Mammography with state-of-the-art technology, expert staff, professional service and local board-certified radiologists interpreting the mammograms. The digital mobile coach is helping to eliminate barriers by making it faster and more convenient for women to have a screening mammogram. The procedure continues to be the gold standard and is the key to life-saving detection of breast cancer.

The Radiology Regional Mammo Bus, a mobile mammogram-testing facility, sets up in the parking lot of the Santini Marina Plaza every couple of months of so, offering women with – or without – health insurance, a chance to get the procedure without the hassel of heading down to the Fort Myers facility. The next time the rolling lab will be on the island is Thursday, Sept. 25.

The next time the Mammo Bus will pull into Santini Marina Plaza, 7205 Estero Blvd., is Thursday, Sept. 25, from 8 a.m. to noon. Walk-ins are welcome the morning of the event, but pre-registering helps with the process.

"We've done it now for over a year, enough that we now have annually returning patients. It's just so easy, especially here on the island, compared to having to go off-island," Georgia said. "It's very well designed, very well decorated. The staff is just phenomenal, very sweet. It's very easy to do, very comfortable."

For those who have insurance, be sure to bring all of that info with you the day of the test. Radiology Regional Center is a contracted provider with most health insurance carriers and will file all claims on your behalf. Co-pays, deductibles and co-insurance payments are expected at the time of service. For those without insurance, a discounted price of $150 is offered to self-pay patients, but be sure to bring a photo ID. Cash, check, Visa, Master Card and Discover Card payments are all accepted that day. To help expedite the form-filling process, go online to RadiologyRegional.com to print and fill out a registration packet prior to your Mammo Bus visit.
