Buffalo-Rochester Western New York fans will be taking over Big Game Waterfront Grill Wednesday, Feb. 5 for its next States Days celebration at the 2200 Main St. location. Bills and Sabres fans, along with anyone else from that area of the Empire State, will enjoy plenty of food and fun and everything Western New York that day. The fun will begin at noon with live entertainment and drink specials, as well as Western New York favorites, like Buffalo wings, Zweigle’s Red and White Hots and cold Genesee Beer.

“This is about the fourth or fifth year I’ve been putting it together, but this celebration has been going on for years at Big Game and Parrot Key. It is so much fun,” said Marcella Matuszak, lead coordinator of the event. “We had about 750 people last year our biggest turnout yet it was a huge success! I ran into people I went to high school with. One of my Bonita Springs friends joined me, and couldn’t believe when he ran into three people from Buffalo that he knew; he couldn’t get over it!”

Frank Torino will entertain the crowd from noon to 4 p.m., followed by Rich Lancaster, from 5 to 8 p.m. There will be lots of music, dancing, trivia and classic football games and highlights playing on the big screen TVs.

“Here’s a little trivia on how the Buffalo chicken wings got started,” Marcella mentioned. “The owners of the Anchor Bar in Buffalo, NY, cooked leftover wings in hot sauce as a late-night snack for their son and his friends in 1964. The boys liked them so much, wings went on the menu the next day, served with celery and blue cheese. Buffalo wings were an instant hit.”

“I can’t wait for Buffalo-Rochester Western New York Day! My father grew up in a small town outside of Buffalo (Eden, NY) and all of my family still lives in Western New York,” said Jaime Huffman, marketing director for Salty Sam’s Waterfront Adventures. “I am a huge Bills fan and I just got a new C.J. Spiller jersey to wear for the celebration. I am most excited about enjoying the Zweigle’s hotdogs. I grew up eating them at my grandmother’s house and I can’t find them anywhere in Florida!”

“Come on out it’s a lot of fun and you never know who you’ll run into from the Buffalo-Rochester Western New York area. There are no lines, no sign-ups necessary. Just come by and have a blast with us and catch up with your fellow New-Yorkers,” Marcella said.
