Upcoming Activities

There's so much happening that it's hard to convey many of the details in this brief discussion. Please check the schedule of the month's activities available at each of the Staff workstations on the First and Second Floors or on our homepage.

Busy: thank you for any way you can assist staff. Please check out all materials on the floor you find them before leaving that floor. We had over 1,000 people visiting the library each day last week and the little courtesies aid in making the place more pleasant for all.

Drawing

It was fun seeing the talent exhibited in last week's drawing class. Instructor Jeanette Swenson offers an hour of basic drawing focusing on basic skills again this week in February. Other than bringing pencil and eraser, there is little required to have this opportunity to explore drawing possibilities.

Crafting

There's a wonderful triangle of opportunity when it comes to crafts this week. On Wednesday, the Quilting Group meets to share ideas and get going on projects. One truly can be in awe at times with the diversity and quality of quilts in progress. On Saturday, there's a great chance to create a fun piece from shells. You get wonderful advice and examples and only $4 and a glue gun & stick (if available as you can keep moving without waiting for glue to be ready) are required. Finally, on Monday, instructor Terry Pinck enables participants to learn palm weaving. The demo on boondoggling makes it worthwhile to come. Again, only a $4 materials fee.

History Then and Now

Appreciation of the past and where we are today comes through in varying ways through Hank Henry look at Florida's role in the Civil War on Thursday, and through local Florida author Sara Williams and her discoveries via writing on Friday. This appreciation continues in the afternoon on Friday with Woody Hanson, fifth generation Floridian sharing the role of the Pioneers and other interesting historical notes.

Energy

Carol Kushkin gets into what the healing energy of Reikie is and what to expect in a session.

Places

If exploration of spaces is desired, you can enjoy On Safari in Africa with Trudy Metz on Tuesday in the AM, and then Vietnam with Bert Kurland on Tuesday in the PM.

Bikers

Please use the bike racks on the corner of the building, or use the bike racks in the parking garage. We hope that the few showing discourtesy by using sign posts or flag pole or near the entrance, take an extra minute and use the bike rack. It's a joy when drivers, no matter where or what road or path or property, show courtesy and respect for each other. We hope our bikers recognize that real effort has been made to provide both outdoors and indoors parking areas and not damage posts or poles.

March Schedule

The March Schedule of Community Room events is available at the staff workstation on the First and Second floors. If an event notes, "please pre-register," that means sign up for the activity because the presenter for a variety of reasons has indicated a desire to have a certain size. It enables better preparation too as it makes more sense to prepare handouts or materials for participants and attendees. If an event is full, don't show up and think your discourtesy should be tolerated by others. Remember too to thank those who are presenting--while they share talents and with passion in the selected topic, it is also encouraging when appreciation is shown. The simple realization I've come to is that people deserve to be thanked--even if they're not expecting it.

Cafe'

The Cafe is open Monday to Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Library Hours

When you call 765-8162 or 765-8163 during closed hours, a message gives the open hours. Open hours are Monday and Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 9 to 5, and Saturday 9 to 4.
