German American Social Club to host Matlacha Mariners’ Southwest Florida Seafood Festival and Car Show Feb. 23

By Staff | Feb 13, 2013

The Matlacha Mariners are hosting their 12th Annual Southwest Florida Seafood Festival and Car Show next weekend at the German American Social Club in Cape Coral.

Matlacha Mariner John Jones said this year’s big draw is NASCAR driver Geoffrey Bodine, who will be at the event signing autographs. Since he will be racing the very next day in Daytona, Jones said he will be signing autographs early to mid-afternoon Saturday, Feb. 23.

Bodine, 63, made his NASCAR debut in 1979. He has collected 18 wins, 100 top five finishes and led over 8,600 laps throughout his 26-year career.

The Seafood Festival will include vendors from such restaurants as Miceli’s Restaurant, Red’s Fresh Seafood House & Tavern, Blue Crawfish, Ali Gator Catering, Crab Cakes and KC & Sons.

The car show, Jones said, will feature between 250-350 cars, which includes 26 different classes of cars.

“We might have the most cars we have ever had,” he said.

Individuals can register for the car show online at www.matlachamariners.org until Feb. 21 for $15. Registration the day of the show is $20.

Jones said 75 trophies will be awarded at 4 p.m., Feb. 23.

In addition to the food and cars, Deb & The Dynamics and Soap Box will provide the entertainment throughout the day.

Jones said they will also have 40 craft vendors at the event.

“It is going to be a good mix,” he said.

Tickets for the event are $5 for adults and free for kids 11 years old and younger. The Southwest Florida Seafood Festival and Car Show will be held at the German American Social Club, 2101 Pine Island Road, in Cape Coral, from 11 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., Feb. 23.

“We are hoping for a super turnout this year,” Jones said.

The proceeds from the event will benefit local charities.
