Dixieland Band coming to Cape Coral

The Barbary Coast Dixieland Band is coming to Cape Coral as part of this year’s Faith Concert Series on Friday, Feb. 15.

You will not want to miss this upbeat, exciting evening. No strangers to Southwest Florida, the Barbary Coast Dixieland Band has played at many concert venues in Fort Myers, Estero, and Naples. Started in 1976 at “Jimmy’s on the Levee” in downtown St. Paul, MN, this band has evolved into a premier show band which travels throughout the country. Although Dixieland is their favorite style, the band plays all types of music in their show.

Tickets for this concert are just $10 and can be purchased at the church office at 4544 Coronado Parkway or by calling 239-542-2858. You don’t want to miss this fun evening of toe-tapping Dixieland swing.

Open Mic Night

The Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center will host another Open Mic Night during Music Walk this month. Sign up outside on the loggia that night.

Open Mic performances will be on the loggia of the Davis on Friday, Jan. 18, between 7 and 10 p.m. The Dancing at the Davis Glow Party will be inside, in the Grand Atrium, from 8 p.m. until midnight.

Dancing at the Davis is the dancing destination in downtown Fort Myers during Music Walk. Get dressed up and come to the Davis Art Center for music, dancing and fun at every Music Walk. Fred Astaire Dance Studio will perform and offer a group dance lesson at the remaining Dancing at the Davis Events. For the January Glow Party, come wearing all white and dance in the black lights!

Themes for the rest of the season are Disco Groovy 70’s Party (February); Flashback 80’s (March); and Latin Dance Party (April).

Screaming Orphans return to the Davis Art Center

The Rotary Club of Fort Myers will host the fourth annual Screaming Orphans concert at the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center in downtown Fort Myers Jan. 26.

The band Kilt the Messenger will perform outside in front of the arts center beginning at 6 p.m. followed by the Screaming Orphans on the inside stage at 8 p.m.

The Screaming Orphans are four talented, funny, high-spirited, musically obsessed sisters who had the good fortune to be raised in the magical city of Bundoran in County Donegal, Ireland.

The quartet has a big following across the United States and is quite popular in Fort Myers, having performed here several times. January will mark their fourth annual concert at the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center. The 2012 event sold out and provided a fantastic show.

All proceeds benefit The Lee County Alliance for the Arts, Sidney & Berne Davis Arts Center and the Rotary Trust Fund. Food will be provided by Reuben’s Catering with special desserts by Norman Love Confections. Tickets are $60 and include dinner and the performances.

Southwest Florida Symphony on Sanibel

The Southwest Florida Symphony will perform from 8 to 10 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, at BIG ARTS, Schein Hall, 900 Dunlop, Sanibel.

USO-Inspired Stars & Stripes Variety Show Gala Jan. 25

The SWFL Museum of History will hold a USO-Inspired Stars & Stripes Variety Show Gala from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 25.

The 1940s USO-style hangar dance and dinner featuring a Stars & Stripes Variety Show theme will be helad at Page Field, 501 Danley Drive.

Chrysalis Chamber Players

New Hope Presbyterian Church welcomes the Chrysalis Chamber Players in concert on Saturday, Feb. 2, at 4 p.m. in the sanctuary. Free and open to the public, this concert will feature music for flute, trumpet, violin, and piano. They will perform works by Martinu, Stephenson, and Ewazen. “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” will be presented at The Laboratory Theater of Florida beginning through Jan. 27.

The Laboratory Theater of Florida on the corner of Second Street and Woodford Avenue at 1634 Woodford Ave) in the Fort Myers River District. Remaining performances are Jan17, 18, 19, 24, 25, 26 at 8 p.m., and Jan 20 and 27 at 2 p.m.
