To the editor:
Righteous anger versus scripted anger.
Those of us who were off island during Hurricane Charlie had a right to our ire, for not being allowed back on the beach post-hurricane, to assess our property. This decision by the then local government was the fuel for fire in their ouster.
Scripted anger (by the not-so-invisible hand) is played out by the angry men who confront the Fort Myers Beach Library Board at meetings.
The plans for our new Library were approved by both the LPA and the present Town Council.
All was well, until for whatever personal and political reasons, this same council was persuaded to change their minds.
Their last legal gambit, before the Lee County Commissioners, was to attempt to undo the independence of the Library district.
There were (Anti) two members of Council, their attorney and perhaps another resident and (Pro) scores of beach residents in attendance at the meeting.
The district is still independent. One cannot help but wonder how many billable hours and town attorney hours were spent in the attempt to derail this project.
Come on people, it is time for a rapprochement.
Enjoy our new Library; I'll even buy you a cup of coffee.
