To the editor:
Thought you might like to see these images of a robust loggerhead sea turtle that came ashore at 11 a.m. this past Saturday morning at the north end of Bonita Beach! Because people were very mindful of turtle-friendly behavior -they did not approach her and they stayed way back- she dug her nest, laid her eggs, covered and camouflaged them well and crawled straight back into the Gulf.
It took her about an hour to complete her task.
Everyone cheered and applauded as she swam away!
It made me feel so wonderful that the people showed such an appreciation and respect for these imperiled animals. And the kids were so excited. One little girl decided right then and there that she would become a marine scientist!
It was quite a morning!
