Protest to happen at Happehatchee Center

May 1, 2012
Fort Myers Beach Bulletin, Fort Myers Beach Observer

To the editor:

I wanted to make your readers are aware of a march/picket line scheduled for the Happehatchee Center on Tuesday, May 1, from 6 to 8 p.m.

This picket is to protest the closing of the center and the mistreatment of the staff that Ellen Peterson put in place before her death.

Many local people are coming to march and demand change for the Eco Spiritual center Ellen left behind as part of her legacy. The picketers will be calling for the center to be the community place it was created to be. They will also be calling for fair treatment of the people who make the place what it is (the community at large).

There is an outcry about the board's decision to close down and displace those who have supported the center both financially and physical. Many have volunteered their time and given their money to support Ellen's dream and now, five short months after her death, the place is closing with no definite date to reopen.
