Plans to open in early June

After nearly 10 years of driving by a shut-down-yet-intriguing-looking facility, and after recently changing ownership, the time has finally come for Zoomers Family Amusement Park to open its doors to the public – with the expected grand opening taking place right around the first of June. Park sales manager and eight-year Fort Myers Beach resident Will Sohner is eager to finish up the construction and restoration, and get the park open to the enthusiastic local public.

“Our pace has really picked up, and we plan to open around June 1; perfect for the kids during their summer vacation,” Will said. “It’s going to be a phenomenal park, and we’re so proud to be a part of this community.” More and more lush tropical trees and landscaping indigenous to our environment are being trucked in by the day, and, by the time the park opens, it will be rich with rides, games, and fun for kids (and adults) of all ages. Prior to the grand opening, Zoomers was kind enough to open their doors to the Beach Bulletin for a one-on-one preview of what’s to come very soon.

Keeping cool indoors

Zoomers’ indoor, 18,000-square-foot, two-story building houses an arcade that features more than 100 phenomenal arcade games – both state-of-the art and the classics, such as ski ball, Spin n’ Win, Dance Dance Revolution and more.

Game-players can earn tons of tickets, which they can then turn in to the Winner’s Circle prize center, which is loaded with great trinkets and toys to select from.

Quench your thirst and appetite at the full kitchen and concession stand, offering anything from pizza and hot dogs to cheeseburgers and fries. And, for you thirsty parents, Zoomers plans to have its liquor license by Christmas time.

Upstairs, the amusement park houses banquet space that is the perfect play area for private parties, birthday parties, executive meetings, gatherings, motivational events, company get-togethers and reunions, complete with state-of-the-art high-resolution projectors. It’s possible to rent the entire floor, or it can easily be divided into as many as five individual, private suites.

“Our facility is also the perfect and safe place to host lock-ins – perhaps for after prom, Project Graduation, church groups, kids’ groups, or even just big, private sleep-overs. We have everything you need for a fun, safe sleepover,” Will said.

The upstairs facility also houses a fabulous patio area that’s perfect for dining and overlooking the park’s Midway, go-kart tracks and bumper-boat attraction.

The go-karts

For years, those driving by the Zoomers park will recall the elevated go-kart track that peeked itself high over the fence. Due to years of exposure to the elements, the track had to come down. But, Will and his construction team have installed even better tracks that don’t even compare.

“Every effort was made to save that track. But, the support and wear on it was just too much – it was a safety concern,” Will said. “However, the removal of the old track allowed us to add two new, great attractions to the park: the Slick Track and Voodoo Island mini golf.”

That’s right. Zoomers is now equipped with TWO?go-kart tracks. The first track is lined with real NASCAR racing tires, and will feature 25 brand-spankin’ new go-karts. These puppies aren’t the super-slow old ones that other facilities might have.

“Our karts are brand new, just like everything else in the park, and it’s sure to be a fun ride for everyone who takes them for a spin,” Will said.

Now, the second track gets a little “slippery,” and not intended for everyone.

“With the removal of the original track, we were able to make room for our Slick Track, which, between the slick concrete surface, baby powder sprinkled on the track, and special karts wielding fatter, slicker tires, this track will almost feel like you’re driving on ice,” Will said.

Due to the higher risk of skill needed to ride on this course, all those venturing on the Slick Track must be equipped with a valid drivers license. Let’s ride!

The Midway

Right in the heartof the park comfortably rests The Midway, complete with large, lighted arch that welcomes all to the amusement park attraction. This is the perfect place for toddlers to 10-year-olds to enjoy the fun carnival rides from yesterday and today, including the Frog-Hopper, the Octopus Mini Lift, a Chair Swing, the Mini-Toot Train and even a Pirate’s Ship! Kids and adults can enjoy the Cobra Rollercoaster, shipped in and refurbished from El Paso, Tx.

And, The Midway’s original 1968 vintage Tilt-a-Whirl will take the “older kids” on a trip down memory lane.

“Everything has been restored on the Tilt-a-Whirl, as if it were brand new, and the lights on this ride are amazing,” Will said.

Have some fun on the water on the bumper boats, or stop by the park’s lake to enjoy local nature at its finest. Fun on the Midway is complete with a stand-alone, indoor concession stand, perfect for cooling off (or heating up), also equipped with additional restroom facilities. And the full-sized, well-lit stage will be a great place to catch some fabulous concerts and live music that Will said Zoomers plans to offer on a weekly basis.

Voodoo Mini Golf

One of the last stops on the Zoomers tour is Voodoo Island Mini Golf, boasting 18 fun holes that take golfers on a wild journey through the rainforest in a thick, lush, plush jungle atmosphere, with totem poles, waterfall and simulated animal sounds – it’s like you were really in the middle of the jungle!

“In the summertime, we may have wet-and-wacky mini golf for the kids, where we turn the sprinklers on, so they can cool off and have fun at the same time,” Will said.

Coming close to the grand opening

As completion rounds about the final turn, Will is eager to promote the DAILY?specials that will be offered to guests, whether it be “half-price go-kart day,” “family fun day,” “senior day,” or any other fun and super-special offer that will help ease tension on everyone’s budget.

There is no charge to enter the facility. You only have to pay per ride or attraction. But, again, be sure to get to know the special offers that will be available every day.

Hours to Zoomers will be Monday to Thursday, 10 a.m. to midnight; Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 1 a.m.; and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

“We’re so proud to offer a park that is for all ages, from toddlers to seniors. The closer we get to our final opening date, the more excited we get,” Will said.

As this 18-acre facility plans its grand opening, its staff is also proud to now make 70 additional jobs to the local community. Be sure to keep your eyes and ears peeled for an upcoming job fair Zoomers plans to offer very soon.

After years of passing by the never-opened facility, after a change in ownership, Zoomers Family Amusement Park will be opening its doors to the public within a matter of months.
