LCSO reports on motorized bicycle traffic crash

A 47-year-old Fort Myers man is in critical condition after crashing his gasoline motorized bicycle on Six Mile Cypress Parkway, Tuesday afternoon. Luis M. Silva (d-o-b 09-02-65) of 19765 Bristol Drive was transported to the Trauma Center at Lee Memorial Hospital. The crash was reported to the Lee County Sheriff's Office at 4:00 p.m. Due to the nature of the incident, an investigator with the Sheriffs Office Traffic Unit was assigned to investigate.

Mr. Silva was traveling eastbound on the bike path on the south side of Six Mile Cypress in the area of Independence Circle. The vehicle was under power at the time of the crash. The driver lost control and was ejected from the vehicle. The driver was not wearing any safety equipment at the time of the crash. The driver is in critical condition at Lee Memorial Hospital. The investigation is continuing and alcohol is a factor in the crash.

No other vehicles are suspected in being involved in the crash.
