To the editor:
Hi Patti. Welcome to the Town of Fort Myers Beach. It is a nice town and your spirit of optimism, I believe, will help it along. Combining the Cultural Resources Department with Parks and Recreation of Bays Oaks, the Mound House and the Newton Park is a viable plan that should spike new life into our town - especially the residents.
There are some things going on that many of us have concerns about. It may be to soon to ask your opinion on this issue. However, I am sure that the residents would like to hear your views regarding the present Town Council members working hard to complete a new Ordinance update that would legalize the bar and saloon owners fronting the public beach to extend their services from their established indoors for their alcohol licensed facilities to the white sandy public beach. Beers of choice, whisky mixed to choice, food, etc. would be served. Please do not be disturbed by this question. Yes, it is true and in motion.
We have always considered and advertised ourselves as a public beach and a famil-oriented island community. In the eyes of our many families and children from across America and around the world, do you believe that they will be able to adjust to our new alcoholic beach culture?
Being new to our town, I realize that you may wish to delay a response for a later date. Maybe asking this question to you at this early date is unfair, though I hope not. It seems that within three months it will be reality. Nevertheless, as a former mayor of the Town of Fort Myers Beach, I sincerely WELCOME you to our unique little Town.
